The Forest at Duke Case Study

For more than 20 years, The Forest at Duke has been, and continues to be, one of America’s premier retirement destinations. Ranked among the top non-profit continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) according to Fitch ratings and due to its continued CARF/CCAC accreditation, The Forest at Duke is known for innovation and excellence in design and service.

Our marketing role began in the spring of 2010, with a marketing review and competitive analysis as part of campus master planning and repositioning marketing. Collaboration over the past four years has included research confirming the market demand for expansion, participation on master planning teams (architect), creative input for refreshing a new interactive website and updated sales packet, and a recent advertising campaign for 15 new single family cottage homes.

“There is tremendous value to the campus master planning process in refreshing your understanding of the competition and the changing dynamics of today’s consumer, as well as involving marketing in the design aspects,” said Steve Fishler, "prior CEO", The Forest at Duke. “Karen’s insight on marketing and design played an important role in the planning process — from repositioning our marketing and enhancing our sales systems to her participation on our master plan team.”
